A totally organic experience

It was the talk of the week.

It was a much anticipated event, from the point of view of both the students and teachers.

And it was not organized by the student council.

It is... the Organic Chemistry Lecture test! (*Orchestral music blares in the background* )

-___-

OK. Well, the scope of this test consists of 6 chapters in Organic Chemistry. The possibility of quiestions are many, as these 6 chapters already cover quite a lot of aspects of chemistry, like Reaction Mechanism, Test and Identification, etc.

In other words, lots of things to study.

More about the test in a while.

Firstly, during the Maths lecture (which was right before the Chem test), the lecturer noticed that a lot of the students actually skipped the Math lecture (Not difficult to tell, judging from the sheer number of empty seats in the Lecture Theater). Probably out there studying for Chem. So the lecturer actually asked the Class Reps to take attendance (unlike any other day). Sigh... what fate awaits those who... forget it. That's history.

After that was the test! I was actually not very confident, but I prayed about it (of course), so at least I didn't worry too much. Ha. Heard that 10 marks out of 22 will be on deductive questions, and I actually was relieved to hear that!

However, during the test, I was actually "OK" for the Mechanism question (which was on nucleophilic addition). Then, for Test and Identification, I got this pair of aldehydes (C=O group with at least one hydrogen atom bonded to the C atom) which looked pretty similar. Later I realised that the first one had the C=O group directly bonded to the benzene ring while the second one has its C=O group bonded to an alkyl group. Saved the day.

But the deductive question wasn't so nice. I only deduced the identity of 2 out of 5 compounds. Never mind. Thank God that I could at least pass.

Vector test next week. Better watch out.
